The Families of LIFE...

LIFE (Local Indiana Food Enterprises) is owned by two families working together along with a crew of other farmers.  LIFE currently has farm operations in Morgan County ('north farm') and in Monroe County ('south farm'). We farm about 14 acres where we grow diverse types of produce. In addition to the regular season, we grow over an extended season using various season extension approaches including greenhouses, hoop houses and row covers. We are able to provide excellent produce starting in April and running through November.

Jeff and Melissa Evard and their daughter Sylvan, live right next to the Morgan County farm.  This farm is comprised of approximately ten acres of land which includes six greenhouses, two hoop houses, and several farm fields.  Jeff is the Chief Agronomist for LIFE.  He studied soil science at Purdue, earning degrees in horticulture and agronomy, and is a very experienced organic grower.  Melissa studied engineering at Purdue and besides working with the farm, holds a job in Indianapolis, and creates One Sky tea blends.  Sylvan is the newest edition and loves to 'help' in the fields.

Art Sherwood and Gwen Fluhr, along with Rett and Zosia live in nearby Bloomington.  Art, the Farm Business Manager for LIFE, studied small business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at IU.  He also teaches small business strategy and conducts research in sustainable organizations/agriculture at Indiana State University.  Gwen has a degree from IU and is a Certified Organic Gardening Educator.  Gwen, the artist of LIFE farm, creates hand drawn labels and logos and documents the farm's growth through a large photo collection.  Rett is a senior, works at misc. jobs on the farm.  Zosia is in fourth grade, likes to play with Sylvan, plant seeds and generally has fun with all the wildlife at the farm.
